Macspring Products

McAllister Spring manufactures all types of leaf springs from as small as a couple of pounds and up to 1,500 Lbs. We also make many other flat steel products for agricultural and industrial sectors. See the samples below.

We’re also very proud of our transition to environmentally friendly induction heating for much of our processing. Give us a call and let us see if we can help you. Design help is always available.

Macspring products include:

Leaf springs for domestic pick-up trucks

Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC

These types of springs typically have 3 to 10 leaves in total. The have rolled eyes at both ends with rubber bushings installed. They may also incorporate a second stage overload to deal with fully loaded trucks, while providing a softer ride when the truck is unloaded. Flex rates vary from about 250 Lbs/In up to 1,400 Lbs/In.

Most leaf springs are for rear applications but there are several common ones also available for 4x4 app’s where leaf springs may also be used.

Leaf Spring

Leaf springs for larger trucks up to class 8

Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Freightliner, White, Mack

These incorporate both front and rear springs although front leaf springs are more common. They may be a multi-leaf conventional spring or parabolic full-taper design. They typically use all metal threaded bushings or smooth bi-metal or brass bushings installed in front and rear eyes.

Leaf Spring for Larger Trucks up to Class 8

Leaf springs for heavy off-road trucks

Pacific, Kenworth, Challenger

These are the big boys of leaf springs and the rears can weigh up to 1,500 Lbs per spring assembly.

Typically, 5 to 12 Leaves per spring with a typical length of 6 feet or so. Material is typically 1” thick by 5” wide and up to 1-1/2” thick by 6” wide. Front springs are more typically in the 400 Lbs. range and usually incorporate 10 to 15 leaves. They may or may not be a slipper design based on application.

Leaf springs for industrial applications

Cement mixer, Jackhammer

These springs we make to order for specific applications. The designs vary considerably depending on the equipment. Some are a simple c-spring design but others use a fairly elaborate multi-leaf approach. Due to the repetitive high frequency nature of their work cycles, they all tend to have fairly thin leaves that are not subject to metal fatigue that would affect thicker springs.

Custom lift and lowering springs

All domestic/import auto and truck leaf applications

An interesting genre of springs which has been very popular for the last 10 to 15 years. A good percentage of small to medium truck owners are not happy with the stock OEM suspension. They typically want to raise or lower the vehicle and sometimes even increase the capacity. We start with the stock dimensions and modify them to the customers’ requirements. Sometimes we make a pair for one customer but runs of 200+ are common as well. Overall, there is surprisingly consistent demand for modified PU truck springs.

Heavy duty leaf springs

All domestic/import truck leaf applications

When truck springs are used for work such as loading yards of dirt or gravel, or mounting snow plows, winches and heavy bumpers on the truck, heavier rated springs are a common upgrade to increase the trucks capacity and performce with the added equipment. Other times, some people feel that the stock suspension is just too light for their needs. We have been making springs like these for many many decades and the demand does not seem to be diminishing.

Heavy duty Leaf Springs

Specialty leaf springs for custom applications

So long as we have sufficient information, we can generally help out in special projects like this. We’ve made special replacement springs for a Lamborghini, MGB roadster and a 1913 Mercedes, not to mention a 1917 Ford! We will occasionally receive a request to manufacture non-automotive designs for industrial or agricultural applications. We are always happy to help in all situations.

Specialty Leaf Springs for custom applications

Flat steel fabrications for auto, industrial, and agricultural applications

Traditionally, we’ve focused mainly on automotive applications till about 10-15 years ago when we got more involved in steel fabrications for automoritve, agricultural and industrial applications. These parts included brackets, hangers, fabrications for specific projects. We’ve even made total loss crane attachment foundations for construction where the fabrications were buried forever under concrete when the project was finished.

Green parts

Induction processed (small 0.1 to 5 lbs.)

Green parts are important because the environmental impact is minimal due to the induction heating process replacing the much more damaging forced air gas furnaces. As a plus, these parts tend to be of better, consistent quality and are even more efficiently made. Truly a win win for us, the customer, and the environment. The only constraint is that the induction process is only viable for parts up a maximum of 10 Lbs. or so. This may change as we go forward and invest in higher capacity equipment.

Green Parts

Automotive parts

Shackles, hangers, overload brackets, overloads

Springs need to be attached to vehicles to work. Therefore we are also pleased to be able to provide all the common pieces needed to make your suspension work. These parts include bushings, u-bolts, shackles, hangers, pins, and shocks. Whether you need 2 or 200, give us a call.

Automotive Parts

U-bolts

High strength Gr. 5 and Gr. 8 up to 2" Dia. Material

Without u-bolts, you wouldn’t have any way to attach your leaf springs to your axles. We can make them up on the spot for your specific needs using high strength Grade 5 and 8 material. They are typically cold bent on hydraulic driven mandrels. Square top, round top and semi-round tops are typical.

If you have a larger Class 8 truck or bigger, we can help there too with our super high strength fully heat-treated u-bolts of material up to 2” diameter. These are made with high quality 4140 alloy heat treated to Grade 8 and feature cut thread.

Leaf Spring

Bolts

Heavy duty Gr. 5 and Gr. 8 up to 2" Dia.

We make all types of hex bolts for automotive, truck, industrial, and agricultural applications. Typical sizes range from 5/8” to 2” material in lengths up to 60” or more! Again, they are fully heat-treated up to Grade 8. NF or NC thread is available.

Bolts

Anchor bolts

Up to 8 ft long (Up to 20 ft by special request)

Anchor bolts for industrial applications are available in all sizes from ¾” and up to 2”. Custom lengths are available as per customer’s requests. Quick turnaround too – as little as 2-3 days is possible.

Anchor Bolts

Custom shapes

If it’s made of steel and requires heat treating, welding, drilling, annealing, bending, forging, peening, give us a call and we’ll quickly advise you if we can make it and provide a quote. We have a “can do” philosophy here and never say no. If we do say no, it’s only because it probably can’t be done – yet!

Leaf Spring

Barker and abrader arms

We’ve been making barker arms for the logging industry for many years. Whether you need 2 or 200 blades, give us a call and let us help you. Made with the highest grade of 5160 alloy and fully heat-treated for a long and durable life. Typical material size is 3/4” x 4” and up to 1” x 6” material.

C-springs

Industrial shaker screens, agricultural applications

C-Springs are used in a number of applications including shaker screens, playground rides and agricultural equipment. They flex similar to leaf springs and provide support and movement as needed by the particular application. Common runs are from 2 to 100 Pcs.

Typical material used is 5160 premium steel in sizes from .262” x 2” and up to .401” x 4” wide.
